Calling New Volunteers! Upcoming Volunteer Orientation, November 13

Join our Enrichment Volunteer Team!   Bring your talents to The Lab and Make a difference with at-risk youth.  Work in a creative, collaborative environment; see some of the Twin Cities’ best artists perform and gain teaching and mentoring experience!  Enrichments are a great way to get involved at The Lab and build relationships with youth without a huge time commitment. We have six events per month (2 hours per session) for which we need Arts Enrichment volunteers. Even a 1x per month commitment would be a huge contribution to our program.   Our next Volunteer Orientation will be Thursday, November 13th, from 4pm - 6pm at The Lab @ Homecroft.

Fall Lab Update from Mary T.

Fall has been great fun at The Lab!  We are providing many exciting arts-based opportunities for students for most of our 11 EBD secondary sites in St. Paul Schools.

Three EBD programs (Highland Junior High PAS, Murray Junior High PSD and Highland Senior High PSD) are coming to The Lab @ Homecroft  twice a month to participate in Student Enrichments & Staff Development.   Students have had a chance to see the hip hop artists, RDM (check out his website bio here) and Glo Martin, of the original Abstract Pack, as well as a local spoken word performer, Tish Jones. They have connected with guest artist/mentor, Glo (check out his blog here)   and they have worked with great volunteers, participating in small group hands-on experiences in Digital Photography, Visual Art and the Poetry Lab.  While students are participating in the Enrichments with Lab Staff/volunteers, the staff from the EBD programs get time with Mary to work toward improved and effective teaming and programming.

Click here to go to our updated website to see some of the art, photography and poetry being generated at these Enrichments.

Welcoming Great Volunteers!

The Lab is connecting many guest artists, mentors and volunteers to direct service opportunities with students, both here at The LAB @ Homecroft School, as well as in individual PAS/PSD sites.  We couldn't do this work without the phenomenal volunteers and guest mentors who join us each week to make it all happen.  A BIG THANK YOU  to all of those who have given us their time, skills, and spirit to contribute to our Open Houses, Enrichments, Mentorships, on-site Residences, and off-site Poetry & Visual Art Labs:   These volunteers have collectively logged over 100 hours of volunteerism in the October!  You Rock!  Kim, Julie, Patty S., Aryn, Robyn, Ginny, Tom, Jessica, Sarah, Rachel, Hannah, Kitty, Patty H., Trish, Jami, Anne, Lydia, Jonah, Charity.  See side bar for details about our next Volunteer Orientation.
