NEW! LAB Youth Radio Podcast: Our Debut!
We are excited to announce The LAB Youth Radio Show, a new, student-driven radio podcast that is available for your listening pleasure on The Lab's website. This show is being developed, produced and co-hosted by two high school students. They will be guided and supported by Lab intern, Kama Johnson and Lab mentor, Glo Martin.
The LAB Youth Radio Show will be a forum for youth and their mentors to discuss topics such as:
- Exploring career choices after high school
- Developing leadership skills for young adults
- Taking steps to prepare for college
- Getting involved in the community through volunteerism
- Positive things for teenagers to do for fun
- Interviews with local community leaders, mentors, performers and artists
- And Much More!
One of the most exciting aspects of this radio show is that it will provide an additional forum for youth who are involved at The Lab to showcase their talents and success stories with a wider audience.
As they participate in the production of the show from start to finish, the youth co-hosts will be developing their organizational, research, planning and teamwork skills, increasing their access to and comfort with technology, and practicing interviewing and public speaking skills useful in many arenas in school, work and life. The youth co-hosts will meet weekly with mentors Glo and Kama to brainstorm, research and discuss ideas for upcoming show topics as well as record, edit and upload the radio podcast to The Lab's website.
The first Youth Radio Show Podcast featuring our youth co-hosts will be available on our website on Friday, October 30th. Stay Tuned!
This preview debut podcast, hosted by Glo Pesci (Lab guest artist and hip hop extraordinaire) and Kama J (Lab intern and spoken word poet), features an interview with Lab founder and coordinator, Mary Tinucci. Tinucci visits with Glo and Kama about the Lab's origins and development, as well as her vision for this new Radio Show's aspect of service for students at The Lab - click here to listen

Welcome Interns!
We are pleased to welcome 4 new interns to The Lab this year! Leann Stanoch, Geriann Fedorwicz, Kama Johnson and Sade Kelly
are working side-by-side with Lab staff on enrichment planning, curriculum development and taking leadership in many areas including facilitating small-group and 1x1 mentoring experiences. Each of these interns comes to The Lab with a wide array of talents, experiences, curiosities and enthusiasm for the work they will do this year. We are grateful for their involvement and high caliber contributions to The Lab.

Program Update
As you can see, the 2009-2010 school year has begun and The Lab is in full-steam ahead! The Lab team spent the month of September welcoming 4 new interns as well as organizing, planning and re-organizing the mentorship, small-group residencies and enrichment opportunities that will take place this at The Lab this semester.
As we continue to offer arts and wellness-based experiences driven by Spoken Word Poetry, Visual Art, Technology and Experiential Wellness, we are excited to announce the launch of a newly developed Leadership modality that will be geared to support students as they work on practical life skills and transition goals for post secondary success.
The month of October has been jam-packed with Junior High enrichments, small-group residencies and mentorships, all of which have gotten off to a great start. Some of our featured 1x1 mentorships this semester include, guitar, graphic design, voice coaching, photography and yearbook planning.
October has also kicked off that start of Staff Development at The Lab. Led by Mary Tinucci, Program Coordinator at The Lab and Lead Empowerment Coach, Anne Byer-Rajput, staff development is an opportunity for teams of educators to meet during the school day (away from students) to work on team building, program goals, and integrating Empowerment principles, strategies and tools into their programs.
Simultaneous to staff development, their students are being inspired, supported and engaged in various arts and wellness-based activities facilitated by Lab staff, interns, volunteers and guest artists. During this time, students are practicing social skills, and exploring creative and experiential opportunities for healthy coping skills and self-expression. With November just around the corner, we look forward to holding enrichments and staff development for High School students and staff.
