Start a Walking Club at your site!

The Wellness Lab will help you get started!

Interested in integrating health and wellness into your program this year? Looking for a new approach to behavior management? Get going with a Walking Club! Giving students a chance to go on a short, supervised walk during a difficult point during the day can yield a variety of positive results:

  • Physical activity provides stress relief
  • Opportunity to forge important connections between staff and students (walking buddies)
  • Change of scenery is soothing to students
  • Ability to improve sense of wellness
  • Walkers may track their progress
  • Walking Club supports Steps to a Healthier Minnesota
  • The Wellness Lab is now offering pedometers to help students keep track of their steps and progress!

A Walking Club can be as simple as one student going on a walk with a supervisor, or can become an organized activity; such as a daily walk after lunch. Your students don't even need to leave school grounds.

Contact Georgia Duncan ASAP with any interest in implementing this into your site, as she will soon be out of the office until October 15. You can reach her at georgia.duncan@spps.org.
