The LAB is Home @ Homecroft!

Back-to-school time is always one of change and new beginnings;  here at The Lab, we've been spending the final weeks of summer gearing up for our most exciting back-to-school to date-- in our new space at Homecroft School! We now occupy an entire wing of the former elementary school, with four distinct classrooms for each Lab modality (Poetry Lab, Visual Lab, Technology Lab and Wellness Lab), plus shared use of the gym, and the cafeteria with a stage. We are so grateful to have the space to grow and expand our program services. We look forward to strengthening our partnerships with the 11 EBD school sites we serve, as well as forging new community and business partnerships.

In addition to our usual service (traveling to eleven junior and senior high EBD programs in the district and providing creative experiential activities), we will now be hosting on-site  enrichment programming and staff development for three EBD teams and afternoon creative residencies to all eleven EBD teams.

Last year was a banner year for The Lab-- we added three modalities to our program services, grew a volunteer base of 17 and served more schools simultaneously than ever before-- and our move to Homecroft will further this positive momentum you've helped us build. A huge thank you to our supporters and colleagues-- we look forward to seeing you this year!

The Lab Team

The Lab Team has grown exponentially and we are now a team of 7!   Tess Pease joins The Lab this year, bringing her 11 years ' experience as the Program Lead at Central PAS, and her love of creativity and youth.  After a year of service in The Lab as an Americorps VISTA worker, Mallory Haar is returning this year as an official St. Paul Public School’s employee. She continues her work as a Program Assistant/Creative Arts Specialist.  We are thrilled to welcome Kristen Mason and Tricia Michel as Americorps VISTA workers. They are full time workers, supporting capacity-building initiatives for The Lab.  Kristin Sancken and Quinnita Morris join The LAB as Master's of Social Work interns this year. Mary Tinucci continues as program coordinator. For more complete bios, check out our website.

Get Involved & Contribute!

There are many ways to get involved with and support The Lab.  We are always searching for VOLUNTEER MENTORS to foster relationships with youth by working in any of our four modalities, and we welcome GUEST ARTISTS to speak about or perform their work for youth. We also have opportunities for 'behind the scenes'  volunteers with experience in fundraising, program evaluations and experience managing other volunteers. If you're interested in giving your time (commitments range from one hour to one year or more!), contact Mallory at mallory.haar@spps.org.

DONATIONS are always welcome to support special projects of The Lab.  We recently opened an account with Donors Choose, a great resource for donors interested in contributing to specific projects.  Through Donor's Choose, contributors can see exactly how their money will be used. Check out our current proposal for recording equipment at www.donorschoose.org, keyword Mary Tinucci. Whether you can donate a little or a lot, Donors Choose is a great way to give!

We accept donations via checks, as well as via the school district's webpage: www.sppspay.org. This website also offers our exciting Lab Gear and poetry anthologies for sale.

For the first time ever, The Lab is making partnerships with local St. Paul businesses. Through our sponsorship program, local businesses can donate in-kind materials or money to our program, and in turn we will help promote their organization. We are proud to reach out to local community in this way. Together, we can all strengthen the St. Paul community.
